Juan Carlos Bermejo Quiñonez

Juan Carlos leads the Corporate and Real Estate departments of the firm.

Juan Carlos Graduated as Attorney and Notary public from Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala where he was awarded the Cum Laude distinction and was elected Student Body Representative. He has postgraduate studies in International Tax Law from the University of Salamanca and a MBA from the Universidad Francisco Marroquin. 

He has taught the course on corporations at the Tax Law master’s degree program at Universidad Galileo in Guatemala.

During his professional career he has specialized in Corporate and Real Estate law.

He has led the Corporate Practice of Bermejo & Bermejo for the last 7 years and is very active also in the Real Estate industry, with prominent clientele dedicated entirely to this sector. Has within his client roster clients from the Real Estate, food and beverages, industrial and architectural coatings and telecommunications industries and has been part of several local and international acquisitions and merger transactions

For most of his clients he has been their trusted advisor for over 12 years.

He held the position as special advisor to the “Asociación Para El Comercio Justo y Equitativo de Centroamérica, México y El Caribe (CRECER)” for 5 years were he advised agricultural companies in the “fair trade” commerce and corporate law to help them incorporate and market  their products for export.

Juan Carlos leads the Practice specialized in Real Estate administrations and neighbor associations were he advices over 50 building administrations or neighbor associations. 

The department he leads has been recognized in publications such as the Legal 500.

Luis Pedro Bermejo Quiñonez

Luis Pedro graduated Universidad Francisco Marroquin as attorney and notary public with the Distinction Magna Cum Laude. He holds a Master of Advanced Studies in International Tax Law (Adv. LLM) from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, where he attended with a scholarship from Guatefuturo foundation. 

He has taught at the universities Universidad Rafael Landivar and Universidad Francisco Marroquin courses related to tax law, international tax planning and project structuring. 

He lead the drafting of the “Zoning Regulation”  for the Municipalities of Quetzaltenango, Masagua, Guastatoya, Estanzuela and currently is advising the Municipalities of Guatemala City, Mixco and Villa Nueva which are the biggest districts of the Metropolitan area of Guatemala.

Has been practicing law since 2009 and in his professional Career has specialized in Zoning and Real Estate Law, advising as of today the Municipality of Guatemala in Real Estate, zoning and other matters that shape the real estate landscape of Guatemala City.   

Luis Pedro specializes in complex structuring of Real Estate Projects where the project entails more than one use such as the mix of commercial real estate with living quarters, or commercial with office and living, ensuring with his structures that all the different uses of the different units coexist in such a way that every one of the tenants is comfortable with their experience. 

Luis Fernando Bermejo Quiñonez

Luis Fernando Graduated from Universidad Francisco Marroquín as attorney and notary public with a Cum Laude distinction (top GPA of his class) and had further postgraduate studies in the University of Navarra with a scholarship from the “Fundación Carolina Foundation” in International Investment Law and Arbitration. 

Heads the Intellectual Property Department of the firm since its inception 11 years ago, and has grown quite a reputation within the local and international Intellectual Property environment. 

He serves as Chair of the Latin American and the Caribbean Subcommittee of the Parallel Imports Committee in INTA and was invited to be a speaker at INTA´s Annual Meeting in Boston in May, 2019 for the conference “Shades Of Grey – . Current Issues in Parallel Importation Law—A Global Perspective”.  He has been selected for the Emerging Issues Committee for the term of 2020-2021 and has been named chair of the global new emerging issues sub-committee.

He is a member of the Trademarks committee of ASIPI and has served in the Committee for Alternative Dispute Resolution since 2018.

He also serves in the Academic Committee of CAMPI (Cámara Guatemalteca de la Propiedad Intelectual).

Luis Fernando Has over 10 years’ experience handling Intellectual Property matters in Guatemala and coordinating the protection of intellectual property assets and portfolios in several other jurisdictions throughout Latin America. He is particularly knowledgeable and very active in Mexico, Central America (Guatemala to Panama), Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Perú and Chile and several islands of the Caribbean (Cuba, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica and Dominican Republic).

Has been recognized in publications such as the Legal 500 for his expertise in Intellectual Property matters. 

Luis Fernando is also Head of the Litigation Department of the firm, where he handles all corporate, commercial and civil litigation having tried cases in several instances in Guatemala including the Constitutional Court for local and international clients. 

Flor de María Folgar Romero

Flor is a lawyer with more than 10 years of experience in the field of Corporate and Intellectual Property Law. 

She graduated as a lawyer and notary public from San Carlos University of Guatemala and has postgraduate studies in corporate and commercial matters also from the University of San Carlos of Guatemala. 

She has been with the firm since 2008. 

Flor practices within the departments of Intellectual Property and Corporate Law. Her experience in Intellectual Property includes the coordination and supervision of the protection of clients’ Intellectual Property assets at the local and international level. 

Her experience in Corporate Law has been in compliance ,structuring of corporate schemes, mergers and acquisitions.
